Once again I had to stand in front of the man. This time to receive the privilege of getting pinned and putting on the next rank. I never thought I would ever be an HM1.
Even being called "HM1 Rimkus" is foreign to me. When I marched up to Captain to receive my warrant, I immediately got nervous and instead of saying "Good Evening Sir", since it was sunset, I said "Good Morning Sir." I was like what the hell am I saying? He laughed and corrected me. Then the Platoon Sgt. read my warrant, removed the old rank and pinned the new rank on my collar. Being an E-6 changes a lot of things. Now am I not only the oldest guy on the camp, I am one of the only E-6's running around, so my duties change somewhat. Kind of above a lot of the nonsense now. It's all good.
Other than that going on missions every other day and time continues to fly by. We are now tasked with the opening of a new Iraqi police station. Another step in the process of total turn over. These guys have blue shirts and jeans for uniforms. A bunch of weapons and a few new huts we built for them. They are anxious to start, so the next few months will be interesting. We are all doing well here.

Joe,
Congrads on your promotion. You are doing such a great job over there as well as the rest of the troups. Sounds like you will be very busy building a police station and I am sure that they will be happy to have that instead of huts. It would have to be very hard to carry out there duties in those circumtances. Glad to hear that all is going well with you.
We continue to pray for you and the troups.
Looking forward to your next update. Stay safe.
Love,
Kathy

Your newest friend,

Hey Joe!

Maybe now you can get some underling to dive into burning huts for you!
Be well,

Joe,
I so proud of you on your promotion. You really are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the good work.
How is the guard dog and her pups? Are you able to keep them all fed? Is everyone getting to eat, or are you giving all your food to them?
That is really neat that you get to keep practicing your firemen job and Doc job. They could'nt have ask for a better place to have a fire.
Let us know if you get any word on a early return, as Danialle only has 3 weeks left of school and she is wanting to go to Chicago this summer. Timing is a ticking!
You stay safe and well.
Love Cindy
hey joe,
i'm just getting caught up on your entries too. congrats on the promotion!!! woo hooo and it's cool to hear how your fireman skills have been helpful over there too. very nice, very nice. the mandatory military service thought...well i'd be up for having that conversation with you over some beers down the road. i could see positives and negatives. what do you think about making it mandatory for women? just curious...or what about mandatory time spent overseas in general? well we'll chat over some heinees. :) chicago is still a bit chilly - not even 60 degrees today i think. what the frick did i sign up for by moving back here?
ok hope you're doing well! i'm sending you many many virtual hugs!
love,
leah
Hey, Joe,
Bustin your buns has its rewards babe!! Congratulations - we're proud of you.
I'm very proud of all that you've accomplished - everything that you are, all of the good things you show the world about you and what your team is doing in Iraq - Joe, when I dig in my garden, watch the swans quietly swimming on the pond, or just listen to the sounds of life here at home, I'm reminded of how blessed we all are to be Americans and of the wonderful men and women over there whose sacrifices make these blessings possible. God bless and keep you all.
Please stay safe and remember you're in all our hearts and prayers.
Talk to you soon - see you in about 123 days +/-!!
Love, Mom
