Combat Medic School

Hello all!! I know, I know where the heck have I been. Well, all has been well but very busy. Looking at the calender and counting the days, I have been gone almost two months already. The time really is going by fast. Currently, me and about twenty other medics are on somewhat of a two week break. Break as in we are not training or working six days a week with long nights and days. We are in Combat Management Trauma school in Camp Pendleton. Our days are normal school days which has been a nice little relief in the middle. The days are packed though with great information and training for what we do as combat medics. All the instructors have done at least two pumps to the sandbox and have real world experience and stories. What we are learining here is the basic no shit down and dirty on how to assess trauma patients in a crappy environment, how to employ quick procedures to save the most lives with the least amount of resources. Stuff that most docs in the civilian world would have a coronary over, only because they would worry about malpractice and being sued. What is interesting is the contrast from what I have learned in Paramedic school and combat medic school. This assessment we learn here is quicker and finds life threatening conditions so much quicker. I really think this is what our civilian counterparts should be learning. This first week has been all classroom work, then next will be a live tissue lab, followed by time in the field with real live scenarios. All good training!! In all honesty I hope I never have to do any of these procedures on my Marines, but if I do, I feel well prepared to do the job I love to do. Other than that am well and healthy. Some of the young guys have been getting the basic sprained ankles, hurt knees, blisters, stuff like that, and me, 36yrs old now, hasn't had a problem yet. Those young kids!! Anyway as time marches on, I do miss home. I miss the things we all take for granted every day, driving my truck wherever I want, going to and from without having to ask permission, sleeping in, direct tv, Starbucks coffee, lying on my couch with a bottle of Captain and coke, the lake front, hot showers without worrying if I bump into the guy next to me, complete silence when I sleep and......and......Rocco's cooking. So until next update which I hope will be soon....I love you all.

Hey Joe! Ok now Cindy's got me wondering what this news is!! I know we have been playing phone tag but things are great here at "home". Ashley has opened up so much, man to wake up with the three of them on the bed in the morning...I can so feel the love. I know it sounds cheesy but I've so fallen for them. Call when you get a chance. Miss ya!

Joe? . . . Joe? . . .

Oh yah! That small guy from the tower that used to be in the locker across from me.

$46,000 later and Ryan ends up our new president anyway. I’ve been on furlough, but I know you already owe us $20 for the toy drive, $10 for the Ball’s bikes and $30 for the Christmas party. Also, you owe 2 watches as of 11/11 ‘07. Mike will get to you soon on the house dues for next year.

God Bless you brother

Hi, Sweetheart,

Great to find your blog page - this means so much to all of us who love you. Interesting and informative and almost makes us feel you're near. You are so much a part of my heart, Joe, that I still am having difficulty thinking of you in the "sandbox" - your mom's a "work in progress" so please be patient. Guess my only comments to your are to take care of yourself and learn to DUCK!!

Busy time for you - hope last week end was what you expected. From the comments in your blog, looks like the "Cat is still in the bag". Soooo . . . Mum's the word here at home.

We love you and pray for you every day. May God bless you and keep you safe.

Call or e-mail when you have a chance.

Love always,
Mom

Ok MR Rimkus its came down to me having to get firm.
Picture this y-all...Me flying out to California..Me making my way out to the pre-made battle field..Asking them not to shot, I'm just a crazy American looking for my cousin Joe Rimkus..we understand that he has some news and everyone wants it to be shared with them.Even his Mom says mums the word. Can't beat it out of her, so I guess we have to go to the main man to get the info.Matter fact while I'm there I want the real food stuff, non of the MRI or MrP"s or what ever. I've came along way to get this information.. I must come back in good shape..So tell me now do you want me to put you through all of this embarassment? Or save alot of hard work and time and just come out with it.....you better decide soon, reservations are in the works and they are non refundable.after that point it will be pure humiliation. Hopefully you can read your emails soon. They might get shoveled in to Bush corner like everything else and we will never get this ended. Okay enough for now. I WILL BE WAITING ;)

Hi Joe,
How's things in Cali? It's suppose to snow here tomorrow. Nice today, but started to get windy tonight and BUUURRR.
Tonight the 303 Police Unit is arriving in Jackson from Iraq. Makes me really sad, they aren't coming in till midnight. So their Welcome Home parade is goning to be slim. That always makes me sad. I try to stand on the side of the road when any of the units come back. But, Danialle and I have been sick and she missed two weeks of school, so standing out till midnight won't be happen for us. That unit has lost 2 men in the last couple of months, so it will be a sad homecoming for them.
Well guy you stay focused. And remember we all love you and are praying for you.
Always Thankful for our Heroes
Love Ya Cindy
